Home Improvement

Problem: Getting more and more CDs and so need a new space to settle my growing library.

Today is the time for me to fulfill my long-time-plan of improving my room. As a music lover, I purchase new music and CD regularly (like 3 times a month!). That really makes storing the CDs a problem for me. Of course, I’ve imported the music digitally and so you may think I can dump all those physical CDs to trash. If this is true – Why physical CDs are still alive for you to buy? Things still exist are always for a reason: 1. For those oldies who can’t afford or no idea to use digital music; 2. To show off your music tastes; 3. For kinda home decor; 4. Keeping a good memory for yourself; Sure the first reason is not for me, but the rest are really true to myself.

Straight to the main topic of this post: To overcome my problem, I’ve decided to purchase the IKEA “Lerberg” CD/DVD racks, fix them on to a wall in my room that-really-useless-before. It’s really a simple design: some metal frames, smartly uses the wall to help to rack CDs in.

I Like… All Things Apple

Possibly the most popular news now is all about Apple, as the launch of the much anticipated tablet mac – iPad (no iTampon or iPad-with-wings please). For me, the iPad really looks great and it’s really thin, but I’m actually not that impressed… possibly I can’t find any need for me to use a device like this. I don’t think I’d carry something like this on the go just as a supplement to newspapers – the iPhone or iPod touch is enough for me. Wanna browse the internet? iPhone can do it. Wanna watch movies? iPhone can do it, too. Wanna play games? Definitely the iPhone – it’s still looks kinda weird when playing iPhone games on the iPad – whats up holding up a big thing like this and spin it around?

Imagine if one who already have an iPhone, will he/she buy an iPad? For me the answer is no. Anyway I’m still a big fan of Apple, might be someday when I’m rich, I would buy the iPad.

My current Apple gadget lineup. There's me in this pic too. Search for it and see who's the first one to pick me out!

Let’s get back to the main topic – This time I’d like to share my love with Apple – not the fruity apple, but the US tech company Apple (still fruity huh!). Apple is possibly the most special company in the world – the company with unlimited charisma – there’s still no another company can come up to the bar with Apple. Every time when Apple is about to release a new product, the heat will start to buildup – everyone guessing what’s the next thrilling product. People are always so excited about Apple.

I started to love Apple when I was in secondary school (middle school), when my school uses Apple iMacs (during the time of original iMacs, the one with plastic shell and come in a variety of colours) as computer lab computers. I was fell in love with it’s fun-to-use Mac OS 9 interface, played around it’s speech feature, dragged around the windows and scroll bars to create that clicking noise.

After that time I started to notice on the news of Apple, staying late at night to watch Stevenotes, reading every Apple rumors – just being happy to see this Apple growing bigger, healthier and more people to love.

I’ve bought my first mac in 2004, the iBook G4, for me to use during my time in Australia. Then it’s my first iPod – the iPod mini. In 2006 I’ve bought my first iMac, the iMac Core Duo; and the second iPod. 2008 saw me bought yet another iMac, the aluminum iMac Core 2 Duo, plus the original iPod touch.

My (actually now brothers') iMac Core Duo.

My iPod lineup.

Now seems like I’ve stopped the Apple shopaholic, but I’m still preparing myself for the iPhone, probably an updated iPhone if it’s a reality in this year.

Apple’s software is possibly the best in the world too. I’ve made the switch to Mac OS X, Apple’s operating system, since the time on my iBook. I love it’s ease to use and stability. Each major upgrade of Mac OS X is smooth and it’s no hassle. I will always enjoy the new features each new Mac OS X version can give me, namely Exposé (Mac OS 10.3 Panther), Dashboard (10.4 Tiger), Spaces (10.5 Leopard).

That’s always why Microsoft, Windows and the Windows users themselves have been tried many times to copy or bring similar features of Mac OS X to the Windows world. Why not just put the thing simple: Make The Switch!

I Like… Hunting apparel

I Like... Hunting apparel.

This week has been driving myself nuts…

I’ve decided to do a change on my style but it’s a bit of struggle on which path of fashion I should go. It’s so frustrating for me. Even my friends are all frustrated too, they’ve been thought very hard to help me, but I’m just can’t get it… don’t have the braveness to try.

Anyway… Let me share where I usually shop my apparel at.

H&M

H&M is my favourite. It’s affordable and it’s up-to-date. I think it’s items are easy to match. When it open it’s first store in Hong Kong in 2007, I was immediately got obsessed into it. Now I wear H&M for work daily.

American Apparel

Moving into the online world. I also sometime do hunt for apparels online at American Apparel. It’s famous for it’s US-made cotton fabric, especially on Tees. Most of it’s clothing items are plain but colourful, but I will just can’t get everything on my body dressed in American Apparel… coz’ it’s also too gay-themed. I shopped their Tees, accessories and even undies!

Threadless.com

This one is also online but absolutely my most favourite one. This is Threadless.com, based at Chicago, USA. It sells community-designed Tees and Hoodies. New designs come out every week and it’s affordable, so there’s always something new for you to discover. I usually shop from them in summer and shop multiple times – 3 Tees each time… coz’ I really love them!

100% Thanks my best-friends worked so hard to transform this fashion nerd like me…

My Coffee Guide by Moses Chan

Last week when I wandered around the shops, I saw this new book by Moses Chan(陳豪), My Coffee Guide (In Chinese: 給咖啡偷一杯時間).

My Coffee GuideEspresso

This book is an extension to his TV program about coffee, which broadcasted earlier this year. As the name implies, this book is a guide for coffee lovers like me to find hidden coffee spots around Hong Kong, from Small home-style shops to international fame outlets in Hong Kong. Between the pages Moses has written about his comments about different aspects of a coffee – in relation to something personal.

Something Personal

Besides Hong Kong coffee spots, this book also guides us to the coffee spots Moses visited during filming of the TV program, so this lets everyone be able to follow his steps to Italy, Taiwan, Denmark, Indonesia and Kenya, to find the best cup of coffee… other than StXXXbXXs.

There’s some coffee shops I really wanted to visit or already visited in HK, as with the book. Did anyone visited Fuel Espresso at IFC? I really liked it’s style of service, that’s really not a “normal” coffee shop you’d think of, I think it should be called as a “Coffee Boutique”. There’s the place you won’t find any armchairs or tables, for one to seat for a long time, as found in SBUX, Pacific Coffee or Caffe Habitu. You can only find high chairs and the espresso bar in Fuel Espresso, along with jazz music. This is a coffee boutique operated like bars where you to order alcoholic drinks. I think this set-up can make customers really focused on to the coffee they’re drinking plus the conversations – not just between you and your friends, but also with their Barista!

This book is now available at major bookstores in Hong Kong for HK$ 78.00. (Buy online)

P.S.: Do you see that CD at the first pic? It’s new X’mas compilation CD “Making Merry” now selling at Starbucks Hong Kong. X’mas has started in Starbucks now and my favourite drink is back: Toffee Nut Latte. Come down to my store (map), and mention KnowMoreChris and I will treat you one for FREE! (in any size you like!)

Bits and Pieces of this week

**Bits and Pieces of this week
This week has been made me a shopaholic.
As stepping into another month – October, and excited about my working colleagues’ birthday gathering on last Sunday, I’ve decided to do some makeover for myself.
It’s kinda staged process, I’ve been window shopping for days to find the right style for me. Donno what, I’ve no idea on what apparel, maybe coz’ the unchanged season here in Hong Kong, just don’t feel like buying something that I could not wear comfortably.
I decided to do the hair-restyle first, thought that I might get the idea afterwards. I asked my hairstylist to do the extreme one — colour my hair into red-brown and into the cut whatever he thinks good. It had been a 2-days process to do my hair, I’ve coloured my hair for 2 times to make the final style.
So the hair is done, but so what? I still have no idea on what style should change into. Why not move onto that b’day gathering? I decided to order a very special birthday cake for my friends. Do you ever know the Singaporean cake-shop chain Awfully Chocolate? I know about them when they open the first shop in Hong Kong, and now is the chance for me to try out how “awful” their cakes are. I ordered Rum and Dark Cherry Chocolate Cake. I will let you know how it tastes later in this article.
How about some presents? I want things special, so I decided to order a bag from overseas, over at American Apparel, and get it delivered straight to the lucky one, by express.
With every things’ for the birthday ready, turn the angle back to myself. I finally walked by a shoe store, saw that new Marc Ecko line that has been mentioned by mags. With the salesman pushed and pushed I bought two pairs of Marc Eckos, one for pairing long pants, one for pairing shorts.
During the time I’m also actively considering to grab a pair of eyeglasses for fashion, however I have to make this decision very carefully coz’ I don’t wanna to spend money to buy something that will use rarely. The eyeglasses must easy to meet my style, comfortable and economic to me.
Now it the day for the birthday gathering. It’s a karaoke party and I can only join the rest after work. I woken up early for the day and went out to Causeway Bay to grab the cake first. Luckily my SBUX shop had been quiet for whole day.

I woken up early for the day and went out to Causeway Bay to grab the cake first, right before head to work. Luckily my SBUX shop had been quiet for whole day, this allows me more free time to do prepare works, and do less after closing.

Me and my colleagues rushed after closing and able to head to the party quickly. Once there, we quickly got the cake out to try. It tastes absolutely wonderful, the rum and chocolate blend together perfectly, along with pieces of real cherry. It’s not that “full” feeling after eating it, so you’d able to eat more than any other similar chocolate cakes.

Afterwards it’s just sing-alongs all the time, everyone sang happy but me. I need to try to sing their Chinese tracks as I’m really know no much such tracks. And I needed to struggle to find my English tracks. Up until about 4.30am, guys were getting sleepier and it’s only me left awake singing (or mumbling) those English tracks alone.

5.30am, everyone’s got to go, and I was lying deep down on the sofa and need The Climb up to make me awake. I paid for the night and headed back to the workplace for some breakfast. I was a bit down at that time thinking what I’ve done so far…

Did I really silly to do so much, for nothing?

Who knows.

Wishes the birthday ones happy and enjoyed the night.

Day-off today.

Love it

Oh, yes I’ve finally got my own Studio Beats by dr. dre headphones, after breaking apart so much headphones before. I’m sure I’ll take this one very seriously and won’t hurt it (coz’ it’s very pricey, actually).

So today it’s my day-off and decided to giv my new Studio Beats by dr. dre a go. I’ve posted the unboxing pics at Facebook, just click the above pic to check them out.
