I have just wandered one of my fav musician, Emmy The Great’s Facebook and have found that there’s two of her new songs from her new album, Virtue, is available to listen at the following blog:
Btw, who’s Emmy The Great? For those who do not know her much, Emma-Lee Moss (Emmy The Great) is a HK-born Chinese-English musician who has the love in music with the likes of Weezer, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Lemonheads. She had moved to London at the age of 12. She has then since into the indie-folk scene of British music and be renowned when she debuted the album “First Love” – with the singles We Almost Had A Baby and First Love. The album has acclaimed “Best Albums of the Year 2009″ for The New York Times.
Emmy’s new album, Virtue will be released on June 13, 2011.
Paramore. The band I’m definitely dying for. It’s Hayley, Josh, Zac, Jeremy and Taylor, that rocks, catchy and produces great sound. My love with them all started when I first caught in their single, Misery Business, and has caught my attention with Haylie’s great great great voice.
Their genre is just so match in my listening style, it is rock, it has great attractive vocal and easily memorable rhythms.
Hope you’ll like them too! Just search around Youtube for Paramore and start listenin!
With the ease of use of iTunes and iPod… there’s no reason why I can easily have this ever-growing digital music library. I guess the 2982 songs record will be broken again soon…
I guess I dun need to say a word for this. Listen by yourself, and read this article too.
Lyrics for the song:
This was never the way I planned, not my intention
I got so brave, drink in hand, lost my discretion
It’s not what I’m used to, just wanna try you on
I’m curious for you caught my attention
I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong, it felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it
No, I don’t even know your name, it doesn’t matter
You?re my experimental game, just human nature
It’s not what good girls do, not how they should behave
My head gets so confused, hard to obey
I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong, it felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it
Us girls we are so magical
Soft skin, red lips, so kissable
Hard to resist, so touchable
Too good to deny it
It ain’t no big deal, it’s innocent
I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong, it felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it
I do discover new music all the time. There’s many ways to do so. At home I will or anywhere with internet connection I will log on to iTunes store, just click on links like ones on the top 10, preview it. On the go if I have the time I will definitely hop into HMV and just get listenin’. One thing I liked HMV is that they’ll put a short description or review on select albums, this helps you to know about the background of the album, about the band behind it and what are the recommended tracks.
This week I found one great album I think I should recommended to you all. It’s Florence and The Machine’s Lungs, through its really not a recent release. I really has no plans to buy this album at all, up until I go to HMV’s recommended section and just try (ok yep I’m actually know about this album at the time it was “new”).
This UK based act is lead by Florence Welch, with “the machine” being referred as her backing band which is may be different collaborations with different musicians overtime. Their music style, in according to Wikipedia.org:
Musically Florence and the Machine’s sound is generally referred to as soul-inspired indie.
and the album Lungs is their debut album, in which is gain generally positive reviews:
The band’s debut album, Lungs was released on 6 July 2009, and was at the number 2 position for its first five weeks in the charts, behind Michael Jackson.[3]
Spin Magazine gave Lungs four out of five possible stars and wrote, “You’ve gotta hand it to the girl: She always makes you feel something” SPIN.com [4]
I liked this album because their use of harp, an uncommon instrument. Harp has created the music I have never heard before, it’s so clear, pure and imaginative. Playing along with drum beats, plus the richness of Florence Welch’s voice, this is really kinda enjoyable for me and it’s all actually very match together.
By the way for Florence’s voice, it’s actually somewhat reminds me about La Roux in some degrees. That’s about the pitch they both sing at. Checkout the music video of Florence & The Machine song You’ve Got The Love:
You may understand the two acts this way: Florence and The Machine on the classical side, La Roux on the electro-pop side.
I’m a great fan of the Twilight, though I haven’t read any Twilight novels, but I’m surely deep into it’s universe. I’m really loved the story of chained love between a human and a vampire: Bella and Edward – wishing something could happened in reality for me … wait don’t think to much, not for me to be a vampire, I just wanna to have such deep romantic relationships!
Besides the movies themselves, getting into the music behind the movie series is also good for everyone to dive into the Twilight universe. As with the first Twilight movie, New Moon has also released an compilation album featuring tracks that appeared on the movie, apart from the movie score. Both album’s tracks are some handpicked by the Twilight’s author – Stephanie Meyer, with some tracks are written by bands specially for the Twilight movie series. Both albums has helped create hype for the movies, and also help raised attention to the bands contributed to the albums. The last album helped greatly to my favorite band – Paramore, now this time is for Death Cab For Cutie.
The New Moon soundtrack is significantly less tracks from pop or mainstream artists (in my understanding), instead it’s more into the indie-rock scene or darker theme.
This album’s leading track is Meet Me on the Equinox by Death Cab for Cutie, which is written specially for the film by this Grammy nominated indie rock band. Looking into the lyrics I think this track probably about the separation and rare reunion of Bella and Edward – which should be the main storyline of New Moon.
Muse is the only band featured on the Twilight soundtrack again back to New Moon’s tracklisting, but this time is with New Moon original remix of their 2009 track – I Belong to You, in which has stripped the original song’s french lyrics.
The Killers and OK Go‘s contribution are welcomed for me, I really liked both band’s other tracks already and now really enjoying their original song in this New Moon soundtrack. I loves The Killer’s signature vocal and music style as well as OK Go’s use of percussion instruments to create beats.
Apart from these well known acts, I loved those female vocal tracks featured on the Twilight album. For New Moon there’s two female vocal gems Possibility by Lykke Li and Satellite Heart by Anya Marina. These two tracks perhaps are speaking for Bella’s mind, and let me to go into Bella’s world.
Tracklisting of The Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack – in according to my rating:
Possibility – Lykke Li
A White Demon Love Song – The Killers
Satellite Heart – Anya Marina
Meet Me on The Equinox – Death Cab for Cutie
I Belong to You (New Moon Remix) – MUSE
Shooting the Moon – OK Go
Slow Life – Grizzly Bear (with Victoria Legrand)
Rosyln – Bon Iver & St. Vincent
Done All Wrong – Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Friends – Band of Skulls
New Moon (The Meadow) – Alexandre Desplat
No Sound But The Wind – Editors
The Violet Hour – Sea Wolf
Monsters – Hurricane Bells
Hearing Damage – Thom Yorke
Now the New Moon movie itself is on screens in the US, I’m really looking forward to watch this movie when it hit the Hong Kong screens on December 17, then I should have a full understanding of this soundtrack.
With my love to Paramore and the fame of Linkin Park, it’s no doubt that my fav tracks of this album would be their songs – Decode, I Caught Myself and Leave Out All The Rest. The inclusion of these tracks did really helped Paramore to get widespread attention and widen their fan base. And for Linkin Park one, I think I really no need to talk much about them right? I think you should already know a lot about them…
Back to the Paramore tracks, as with most tracks in this album, they are original, and thus are written specially for the Twilight movie by Paramore. The track Decode for me I think is about both Edward & Bella: For Edward’s side, of course it’s about he’s powerless to “decode” Bella’s mind. To Bella, I think it’s about she’s trying to “decode” her love or relationship to Edward – her realization of Edward as a vampire.
Perhaps the next track I liked should be the Danish band Blue Foundation‘s Eyes On Fire, this track’s new age theme and the vocal gives me a lot inspirations.
Bella’s Lullaby is a great instrument only track, in the film it depicted as a lullaby written by Edward for Bella, it’s like kinda “tradition” – a lullaby performed by a vampire in front of the victim, before the vampire to “enjoy” the victim.
And don’t pass by a track that’s actually sung by Edward ~ Rob Pattinson, Never Think. I remember this track actually did not appear in the movie, so it’s worth to listen how Rob sings.
Flightless Bird, American Mouth by Iron & Wine is a great love track, I loves it’s melodies but also the lyrics: looking into the lyrics it’s actually kinda poem about the love between a boy and a little bird– a girl.
Last week when I wandered around the shops, I saw this new book by Moses Chan(陳豪), My Coffee Guide (In Chinese: 給咖啡偷一杯時間).
This book is an extension to his TV program about coffee, which broadcasted earlier this year. As the name implies, this book is a guide for coffee lovers like me to find hidden coffee spots around Hong Kong, from Small home-style shops to international fame outlets in Hong Kong. Between the pages Moses has written about his comments about different aspects of a coffee – in relation to something personal.
Besides Hong Kong coffee spots, this book also guides us to the coffee spots Moses visited during filming of the TV program, so this lets everyone be able to follow his steps to Italy, Taiwan, Denmark, Indonesia and Kenya, to find the best cup of coffee… other than StXXXbXXs.
There’s some coffee shops I really wanted to visit or already visited in HK, as with the book. Did anyone visited Fuel Espresso at IFC? I really liked it’s style of service, that’s really not a “normal” coffee shop you’d think of, I think it should be called as a “Coffee Boutique”. There’s the place you won’t find any armchairs or tables, for one to seat for a long time, as found in SBUX, Pacific Coffee or Caffe Habitu. You can only find high chairs and the espresso bar in Fuel Espresso, along with jazz music. This is a coffee boutique operated like bars where you to order alcoholic drinks. I think this set-up can make customers really focused on to the coffee they’re drinking plus the conversations – not just between you and your friends, but also with their Barista!
This book is now available at major bookstores in Hong Kong for HK$ 78.00. (Buy online)
P.S.: Do you see that CD at the first pic? It’s new X’mas compilation CD “Making Merry” now selling at Starbucks Hong Kong. X’mas has started in Starbucks now and my favourite drink is back: Toffee Nut Latte. Come down to my store (map), and mention KnowMoreChris and I will treat you one for FREE! (in any size you like!)
Oh, yes I’ve finally got my own Studio Beats by dr. dre headphones, after breaking apart so much headphones before. I’m sure I’ll take this one very seriously and won’t hurt it (coz’ it’s very pricey, actually).
So today it’s my day-off and decided to giv my new Studio Beats by dr. dre a go. I’ve posted the unboxing pics at Facebook, just click the above pic to check them out.
