Good bye 4635, the following is a few words of mine for my fellow partners (download PDF version):

To all my 4635 fellows,

Time is passing away quickly like no one has ever noticed. It’s been merely a year for this wonderful Starbucks to have me – a relaxed and crazy IC everyone been enjoyed working with. Undoubtedly 35 has walked through one of my happiest time in my life – my progress from a shy partner, an newly promoted IC, to one whose leaving so soon wheres everyones’ been missed for.

Working with you guys, including your manager – Roy, have given myself the utmost freedom on bringing new ideas to the store, to name a few it’s like rearranging the backroom, scheduling and tips for better service/ better revenue. This freedom has really been able for everyone to buildup team spirits – but I’m here would like this spirit to keep on and better in the future – for the good of not just the store, but for everyone.

Here’s a few of points of insights of mine that the store is needing:

SMILE: I guess the store is truly missing some friendly faces. You know, just as simple as a smile can really means a lot and making a difference – to your customers and partners. It’s an ice-breaker that everyone would like to stop for a moment to thank for, overlapping any unpleasant memories.

BE HOMEY: Why not just feel like the store you’re working at like your home? Consider you’re spending about 9 hours a day when working – much longer than every customers who’s calling it the “third place”. When customers come, why not just feel like a guest visiting your home and give a good welcome to them? “Sit and enjoy the coffee, I’ll do the rest for you.” I know there’s lots of “troublesome” customers here, but I believe you guys can make it.

Clean As You Go – something really need to be improved – Do you like to leave your “home” dirty like hell? Sure any of you guys not. Help to make your “home” tidy – every time after making drinks, food, or yourselves’ use of the backroom. Things getting dirty the customers will know.

LEAVE THE DIFFERENCES BEHIND: Try to put down the differences behind – here I mean arguments and doubts within everyone. There’s always something meaningful reasons behind every decisions. And there’s no one perfect – mistakes and wrong decisions do happen. Why not just give some confidence to each other? Life is really better off when we putting them away.

So there you go, I’m really hoping everybody putting these few points deep into the heart – this is the 4635 should be and I hope this will help to make each other a wonderful lifetime memory. Be happy and proud of where you’re working at!

I hope there’s another chance in the near future for your store to have me again!

1st Quarter of 2010: Exhausted, Exciting, Opportunistic!

REALLY SORRY for the really long hiatus for my blog… It’s was a bit hard (and lazy) for myself to squeeze some time out to the writing pad. But as May is approaching soon, I guess I’m really need to do something here to get buzzed up again.

So what’s really happened around me so far? I can say that it’s mixed.

My workload has increased a lot at SB, there has increased patronage – which means there’s more customers who dunno-what-Starbucks-is-about (which come in and ask for coffee & “milk tea”): That REALLY FRUSTRATED ME A LOT PEOPLE! I’ve got the passion to do great service but guys please really think what Starbucks is first! SB is specialized in coffee… and it won’t be so stupid to have the whole store to sell just “Coffee” and “Tea”! Read the darn menus please! (Sigh x 100)

Besides, there’s new stuffs to me to train my fellow partners – those follow-ups and fix-ups has also increased my workload.

Thankfully busy workload has always got something I can do to balance it. I have some new friendship start-ups, there has really added lots of colors to my life. With shared interests with her, like music and style – plus most importantly introduced a new kind of sport I’ve never touched before – Muay Thai (or simply Thai Boxing).

I was never thought that I would really into Thai Boxing before – at that time when this friend intro me for a trial – I was really wanna just to try, but who knows when I tried and liked a lot then invented so much for a better shape? But anyway I guess ultimately it’s hardly for me to go on if there’s no one to go with.

So far the boxing training is gettin’ tougher and tougher… just about to reach a stage that I can’t cope with. But with the target to change myself like gettin’ muscular… I need to move on anyway. Don’t forget to check out some video and photos of me.

Right, besides this tough training… I’m gotta enjoying my life with this friend – like hangin’ around, getting some tips on style … it seems that we’re getting into each other’s life … or just simply I’ve thought tooo much? No way!

Coming within a month I can see lots of new opportunities – in terms of work and myself. It’s true that I’m actively in the search for a better future – but in SB there’s also gonna something new for me too! There’s gonna a good bye to my “followers”, but a welcome to some new “followers”.

Something more important is gonna to happen too! It’s about “23″! It’s about the time for me to start planning for this “23″. It must be something different than what’ve done before. Stay tuned for this.

Meanwhile I’m still been actively around KnowMoreChris. Twitting around at my Twitter account about the up-to-the moment news of mine, sharing interesting stuffs on Facebook, plus I’m now also in the party of Foursquare: With it I can really share the world about interesting stuffs LIVE… as when I wander around the city. The Twilight Saga: New Moon – Soundtrack

The Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack

I’m a great fan of the Twilight, though I haven’t read any Twilight novels, but I’m surely deep into it’s universe. I’m really loved the story of chained love between a human and a vampire: Bella and Edward – wishing something could happened in reality for me … wait don’t think to much, not for me to be a vampire, I just wanna to have such deep romantic relationships!

Besides the movies themselves, getting into the music behind the movie series is also good for everyone to dive into the Twilight universe. As with the first Twilight movie, New Moon has also released an compilation album featuring tracks that appeared on the movie, apart from the movie score. Both album’s tracks are some handpicked by the Twilight’s author – Stephanie Meyer, with some tracks are written by bands specially for the Twilight movie series. Both albums has helped create hype for the movies, and also help raised attention to the bands contributed to the albums. The last album helped greatly to my favorite band – Paramore, now this time is for Death Cab For Cutie.

The New Moon soundtrack is significantly less tracks from pop or mainstream artists (in my understanding), instead it’s more into the indie-rock scene or darker theme.

This album’s leading track is Meet Me on the Equinox by Death Cab for Cutie, which is written specially for the film by this Grammy nominated indie rock band. Looking into the lyrics I think this track probably about the separation and rare reunion of Bella and Edward – which should be the main storyline of New Moon.

Muse is the only band featured on the Twilight soundtrack again back to New Moon’s tracklisting, but this time is with New Moon original remix of their 2009 track – I Belong to You, in which has stripped the original song’s french lyrics.

The Killers and OK Go‘s contribution are welcomed for me, I really liked both band’s other tracks already and now really enjoying their original song in this New Moon soundtrack. I loves The Killer’s signature vocal and music style as well as OK Go’s use of percussion instruments to create beats.

Apart from these well known acts, I loved those female vocal tracks featured on the Twilight album. For New Moon there’s two female vocal gems Possibility by Lykke Li and Satellite Heart by Anya Marina. These two tracks perhaps are speaking for Bella’s mind, and let me to go into Bella’s world.

Now the New Moon movie itself is on screens in the US, I’m really looking forward to watch this movie when it hit the Hong Kong screens on December 17, then I should have a full understanding of this soundtrack.

My Coffee Guide by Moses Chan

Last week when I wandered around the shops, I saw this new book by Moses Chan(陳豪), My Coffee Guide (In Chinese: 給咖啡偷一杯時間).

This book is an extension to his TV program about coffee, which broadcasted earlier this year. As the name implies, this book is a guide for coffee lovers like me to find hidden coffee spots around Hong Kong, from Small home-style shops to international fame outlets in Hong Kong. Between the pages Moses has written about his comments about different aspects of a coffee – in relation to something personal.

Something Personal

Besides Hong Kong coffee spots, this book also guides us to the coffee spots Moses visited during filming of the TV program, so this lets everyone be able to follow his steps to Italy, Taiwan, Denmark, Indonesia and Kenya, to find the best cup of coffee… other than StXXXbXXs.

There’s some coffee shops I really wanted to visit or already visited in HK, as with the book. Did anyone visited Fuel Espresso at IFC? I really liked it’s style of service, that’s really not a “normal” coffee shop you’d think of, I think it should be called as a “Coffee Boutique”. There’s the place you won’t find any armchairs or tables, for one to seat for a long time, as found in SBUX, Pacific Coffee or Caffe Habitu. You can only find high chairs and the espresso bar in Fuel Espresso, along with jazz music. This is a coffee boutique operated like bars where you to order alcoholic drinks. I think this set-up can make customers really focused on to the coffee they’re drinking plus the conversations – not just between you and your friends, but also with their Barista!

Dining out at Shake’em Buns

Last night I decided to dining out for a little “friendship reconstruction” with my friend, I was originally first decided to tryout BurgerRoom at Caroline Hill Road of Causeway Bay, however it was about full house at one little store. Along the same street it’s full of high class little dining out gems, and they’re seem like full of well-known personalities.

Then I decided to tryout another burger spot just a few blocks away, this one actually I wanted to tryout for long: Shake’em Buns (Location). I know about them since they opened their first rest @ Wan Chai’s famous dining spot Star Street.

This is a English-only restaurant and it’s slangs everywhere, like “Doggy-Style” as hot dogs, “Flying Nemo” is fish fillet burger, etc. Looking at their menu is just a headache, when you see it’s full of English and has lots of items to choose.

I’ve ordered the Hot Chick (Chicken burger) combo and my friend has ordered Cushin’ for the Pushin’ (Cheddar Cheese beef patty burger) combo, plus a pint of Hoegaarden beer for share out. We seated at the bar and able to look at their stage – kitchen when their personalities prepare meals freshly: here I mean everything is cooked when needed, the bread is toasted, fries being fried and meat is being cooked when order comes in. The environment is a bit dark but it’s acceptable, and I love to hear people chatter around makes meet feels like the world’s movin’.

So this is a dinner for “friendship reconstruction”, as you know, it’s so much thing happened this week, that’s complicated and has made many people worried about. And I know that’s not good for everyone as we need to meet daily, so why not just drop those complicated matters away and look forward for a better future? That’s why I decide to have this rendezvous to clear up the blockage around me and my friend.

We had spoken out for the truth and just said the word we wanted to say – we’re both really wanted to befriends again and just like we’re before everything happened. Besides this matter, we have also chattered about other people around my SBUX store, and my attitude for work and towards a better service.

Back to the food, those burgers were just came in, those burger looked like huge and the fries are golden brown and crisp. I decided to have the fries first to avoid they’re softened if I eat them later. It tasted v.good coz’ they’re really cooked freshly.

Now move on to the burger, mine is the Hot Chick, it’s a chicken fillet burger. The bread is crisp on the outside, soft in the inside and it’s warm. This point is very important coz’ when you eat a burger, this is the first-point-of-contact at your mouth and tongue. If you feel the bread is cold, this will immediately piss you off and you’ll get the feeling that the burger is not freshly made (that is made for a long time); the bread is toasted adequately made you to have some degree of texture in your mouth. If it’s toasted to much, you’ll feel hard to chew and that’s feel like hard to “start with your burger”. Now my teeth has passed the bread, and went deeper into the chicken fillet. This is Tandoori chicken and it’s marinaded to the taste I liked most. It’s adequately grilled – keeping juicy inside but it’s crisp outside. The chicken’s juice even kept dripping out when I having the burger.

Besides the bread and the chicken, it’s just normal fillings like lettuce slices and tomatoes – there’s one point I wanted to note, I think the tomatoes were a bit over cooked and were easily being “minced”.

For the beer, I know a pint-glass of beer is huge for me, however the Hoegaarden beer is actually taste not so strong in terms of alcohol, it has a strong taste of wheat and light bodied, I think it’s great to drink while having Shake’em Buns freshly-fried-fries. If it’s price can be a bit cheaper ($49 a pint, $39 ½ pint), I’m definitely having one more pint!!!

So there you go, after checking out a number of burger outlets in HK, Shake’em Buns I think is being on the top of my list, it’s the best one so far for me and I will definitely come back again!

The truth I don’t wanna see.

What else I can say?

Today was supposed to be a happy ending of someone. I was supposed to forget everything and get things restarted.

What happened last night was totally a nightmare for me. It was a truth that’s EXTREMELY HARD FOR ME TO BELIEVE. My mind has been sink into a deep darkness.

It is actually and totally RUBBISH for what I heard on last Saturday night. For me it was actually a beautiful lie for me.

Being my best friends should be no lies, I know, this truth is hard to confront with. But I think I’d feel better if I realize this truth by the right way.

I just don’t know what should I do?

I just don’t wanna know what I should do?

HELP ME OUT!!!

Things Comes and Goes

Looking back, that was late August, there was labour shortage at work.
When I first knew the news about a new partner would join my team and whom is a girl, it’s just hope and excitement filled in my mind. This was partly caused by my desire to make new female friends. To be honest, everyone at my store had also been so desired for a new (or a fine) female partner to join.
And that was the day a new partner arrives, everybody’s eyes was so brightened to welcome our new friend. And I was so charmed when I looked in her eyes. This was day one my heart started to “beat”.
I was full of willingness to know more about this new partner since than.
Things getting heated up as days went on.
As her birthday came closer, I had expressed my true thoughts about this girl to my colleagues. My colleagues are so supportive, they have been giving me advices all the time.
I’ve decided to give some attention out around her birthday. I think this was the time you realised my thoughts, right?
Days have been passed so fast. Now it has been two months the girl has joined us. When I first got the news about she had decided to leave, I was bit of upset. But this is how everything comes and goes, I knew there’s always one day this girl will leave, but never thought this is that soon. **
Then things came to an end on the night before, when I went out with her and some of my colleagues. This was a meaningful night and that let me able to more about myself.
What happened the night before was truly a forum for everyone to know more about themselves each. During the time and in between the words, I could uncover my weaknesses, in which I’ve actually been trying to overcome. Through I heard something that isn’t good to know about, but that’s not the thing I should unhappy for, coz’ I’m more than welcome to know more comments and suggestions about myself.
I’ve spoken for myself for the truth, through I’m sorry for not having the braveness to do so face-to-face. I finally knew about this girl’s true feeling about myself. It turned out is a failure to me. Of course it’s bit of disappointment and upset for myself, but I think this outcome is good for everyone, and I can see this is the chance for me to re-equip myself to be stronger and await for the next opportunity.
Overall, that was one enjoyable night, i would like to thank you everyone tried to help me to succeed what I wanted to succeed.
In just about three months, this girl has bought so much to not just me, but to everyone at the store. Everyone has been less bored, there has new subjects to chat with, and lots of laughs. Through sometimes she had bought troubles to everyone.
We’re still good friends, right? There’s just very few days left that one is working with me, should we just make this history and enjoy these days?
Now let me introduce everyone a piece of great music that I used to relax and inspire myself, it’s Claude Debussy’s Clair de Lune.

This week has been made me a shopaholic.
As stepping into another month – October, and excited about my working colleagues’ birthday gathering on last Sunday, I’ve decided to do some makeover for myself.
It’s kinda staged process, I’ve been window shopping for days to find the right style for me. Donno what, I’ve no idea on what apparel, maybe coz’ the unchanged season here in Hong Kong, just don’t feel like buying something that I could not wear comfortably.
I decided to do the hair-restyle first, thought that I might get the idea afterwards. I asked my hairstylist to do the extreme one — colour my hair into red-brown and into the cut whatever he thinks good. It had been a 2-days process to do my hair, I’ve coloured my hair for 2 times to make the final style.
So the hair is done, but so what? I still have no idea on what style should change into. Why not move onto that b’day gathering? I decided to order a very special birthday cake for my friends. Do you ever know the Singaporean cake-shop chain Awfully Chocolate? I know about them when they open the first shop in Hong Kong, and now is the chance for me to try out how “awful” their cakes are. I ordered Rum and Dark Cherry Chocolate Cake. I will let you know how it tastes later in this article.
How about some presents? I want things special, so I decided to order a bag from overseas, over at American Apparel, and get it delivered straight to the lucky one, by express.
With every things’ for the birthday ready, turn the angle back to myself. I finally walked by a shoe store, saw that new Marc Ecko line that has been mentioned by mags. With the salesman pushed and pushed I bought two pairs of Marc Eckos, one for pairing long pants, one for pairing shorts.
During the time I’m also actively considering to grab a pair of eyeglasses for fashion, however I have to make this decision very carefully coz’ I don’t wanna to spend money to buy something that will use rarely. The eyeglasses must easy to meet my style, comfortable and economic to me.
Now it the day for the birthday gathering. It’s a karaoke party and I can only join the rest after work. I woken up early for the day and went out to Causeway Bay to grab the cake first. Luckily my SBUX shop had been quiet for whole day.

With every things’ for the birthday ready, turn the angle back to myself. I finally walked by a shoe store, saw that new Marc Ecko line that has been mentioned by mags. With the salesman pushed and pushed I bought two pairs of Marc Eckos, one for pairing long pants, one for pairing shorts.

During the time I’m also actively considering to grab a pair of eyeglasses for fashion, however I have to make this decision very carefully coz’ I don’t wanna to spend money to buy something that will use rarely. The eyeglasses must easy to meet my style, comfortable and economic to me.

Now it the day for the birthday gathering. It’s a karaoke party and I can only join the rest after work. I woken up early for the day and went out to Causeway Bay to grab the cake first, right before head to work. Luckily my SBUX shop had been quiet for whole day, this allows me more free time to do prepare works, and do less after closing.

Me and my colleagues rushed after closing and able to head to the party quickly. Once there, we quickly got the cake out to try. It tastes absolutely wonderful, the rum and chocolate blend together perfectly, along with pieces of real cherry. It’s not that “full” feeling after eating it, so you’d able to eat more than any other similar chocolate cakes.

Afterwards it’s just sing-alongs all the time, everyone sang happy but me. I need to try to sing their Chinese tracks as I’m really know no much such tracks. And I needed to struggle to find my English tracks. Up until about 4.30am, guys were getting sleepier and it’s only me left awake singing (or mumbling) those English tracks alone.

5.30am, everyone’s got to go, and I was lying deep down on the sofa and need The Climb up to make me awake. I paid for the night and headed back to the workplace for some breakfast. I was a bit down at that time thinking what I’ve done so far…

Did I really silly to do so much, for nothing?

Who knows.
